The European Union Directive, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE - 2002/96/EC), became effective throughout Europe on August 13, 2005. The main purpose of this Directive is to isolate substances which are negative to health and the environment from the cycle of nature and promote the reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery of such wastes so as to reduce disposal.

As a producer of electrical and electronic equipment, iDirect Technologies is committed to the collection, treatment, recycling, and environmentally safe disposal of WEEE. All iDirect Technologies products placed on the market from August 13, 2005 are identified as such with a crossed-out "wheelie bin" symbol on their label. This label. a crossed-out rubbish bin with solid bar beneath, indicates that EU end users can return equipment to iDirect Technologies designated recyclers.

iDirect Technologies is working with European waste solution providers to ensure it has systems in place to manage recycling and disposal of waste on behalf of our customers.

RoHS Information

The RoHS Directive is complementary to the WEEE Directive. It bans the use of certain heavy metals and brominates flame retardants in order to reduce the environmental impact of land filled or incinerated WEEE.

From July 2006, the following substances will be effectively banned from use in new electrical and electronic equipment:

  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Cadmium
  • Hexavalent chromium; and
  • Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)

As a responsible global corporate citizen, iDirect Technologies believes that environmentally conscious manufacturing is an essential ongoing requirement of its business. The company is taking into account the need to reduce hazardous substances and improve recyclables in its future products, by incorporating RoHS requirements in the design stage through to manufacturing.

iDirect Technologies understands the environmental risks associated with these substances and will comply with the RoHS Directive requirements set by the European Union. RoHS substances will be eliminated, to levels below legal limits, for all iDirect Technologies products subject to the RoHS Directive.
